Bloom

Commit . Grow . Flourish

Student: Rasha Ahmed
Project Type: Mental Health Centre for Youth

Bloom is an integrated Treatment Centre aimed at empowering people with mental health disorders and encouraging their ability to grow within a protective sanctuary in the United Arab Emirates community context. The environment plays a significant role and therefore it has more impact within the specified young demographic in several ways such as work-life balance, relationships, and family commitments, especially in the current changing world. The cocoon being the main source of inspiration helped develop the design concept representing the suppressed feelings or emotions that are required to be understood by the community. Flourishing out of this cocoon is the main metaphorical goal of Bloom. The centre strives to empower individuals admitted for mental health issue by allowing them to express themselves freely through the self-expressive exhibit providing spacious, naturally fit zones that can achieve multiple levels of interaction needed to guide the mentally ill person to a full or manageable recovery from their illness. Communal areas with different levels of interaction caters to their abilities and state of mind for a more inclusive environment. The public spaces within Bloom are aimed for raising awareness and reducing stigma.
