April 17th, 2019: Three outstanding students from Canadian University Dubai have been placed in the top 20 entrants in a recent Pearl Initiative Case Study Competition staged for universities in the UAE.
Hananeh Mohammad Arasteh, Hussain Abbas Mohammad and Shaghayegh Younes Abedi all from Business Ethics MGT 405 class were recognized for the quality of their final project submissions and attended the awards ceremony today to receive Certificates of Participation.
The students completed the case studies as projects in class, the best being chosen for submission to the competition.
The Pearl Initiative Case Study Competition called for university students to research, write and submit case studies on good corporate practices that are implemented within organisations in the Gulf Region.
The aim of the competition is to help ensure that students have a practical application of ethics at the heart of their business education and to also build an important resource of regionally-relevant case studies.
The Pearl Initiative is a UAE non-profit vehicle for the Private Sector to collectively take a lead in adopting higher standards in corporate governance, accountability and transparency. It was established in 2010 by prominent business leaders from across the Gulf Region in 2010.
The Pearl Initiative believes that proactively raising standards in these areas enhances business innovation, opportunity and value creation. In other words, at the company level, it simply makes good business sense. At the sector and regional level, high standards of corporate governance and integrity are key drivers of competitiveness, investment, job creation and sustainable economic growth.
One of the participating students, Hussain Abbas said, “With regards to the competition, I would like to thank our Professor Ms. Julie Beeton for providing us her constant support throughout. We have gained valuable knowledge and experience that we can take away from this competition and it has been a huge honor to be recognized by the Pearl Initiative for our project. Finally, we would like to congratulate the eventual winners of the competition.
Ms. Julie Beeton, Assistant Professor said, “I am really proud of the three students and their submission to the Pearl Initiative. They interviewed the Regional Manager for Graduate Development - MENA at HSBC and discovered some interesting information about the integrity-based practices at the bank. I would like to thank the Pearl Initiative for recognizing their efforts.”
