November 23rd, 2023: The Canadian University Dubai (CUD) community, together with Mr. Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, CUD Chancellor; Prof. Karim Chelli, CUD President & Vice-Chancellor and distinguished guests marked the United Arab Emirates 52nd National Day together on November 23rd, 2023, at CUD’s City Walk campus.
The event honoured the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of the UAE and the nation’s peace and prosperity, under the leadership of the UAE’s founding fathers and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Speaking during the welcome address, Dr. Rami El Khatib, Dean of Student Affairs said: “It is with profound respect and honor that we acknowledge the spirit of the union of the UAE. This nation stands as a testament to remarkable success and unity, driven by an unwavering pursuit of progress, prosperity, and excellence. As we commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the federation, we reflect on a legacy marked by visionary achievements and a rich cultural heritage.”
The CUD community cherished the UAE National Anthem, performed on the piano by Shaima Jamal Alhai. CUD students, Jummah Al Ghandi, and Shaima Jamal Alhai delivered speeches on behalf of their cohort. Jummah shared, “As students and members of this community, we have been privileged to be part of the UAE’s remarkable development. The UAE has provided us with not only exceptional educational opportunities but also a welcoming and safe environment enriched with diverse cultures and traditions.”
Echoing Jummah’s sentiments, Shaima Jamal Alhai continued, "In the spirit of unity, in diversity, let us make this celebration a reminder that our strength lies in our differences. Embrace the cultural mosaic that surrounds you, for it is through understanding and cooperation that we truly flourish." Her words underscored the value of diversity in the UAE's vibrant community.
The proceeding continued to pay tribute to the cultural facets of the Emirati society, featuring a poetry recital by Hessa Rahimi and Alya Abdulaziz Khaled.
Adding a display of creativity to the event, lecturer and artist Sylvain Tremblay captivated the audience with a surprise live art performance. “It's an honor to contribute to the UAE's cultural tapestry, especially on National Day, reflecting the unity and innovative spirit that thrives here," he expressed. His unique live art performance represents the dynamic fusion of tradition and progress that the UAE embodies.
Reflecting the spirit of the day, the event transitioned to a moving video presentation. Here, students from a mosaic of backgrounds united to deliver a powerful poetic tribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Their words vividly painted a portrait of Dubai's transformation under his leadership, honoring the city's evolution into a beacon of possibility and progress.
The CUD community marked a memorable 52nd UAE National Day, in appreciation for the nation of the United Arab Emirates.
