October 3, 2026, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE): The School of Management at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), in strategic partnership with President Education, hosted an immersive three-day workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) and the law for international students from Sathyabama University, India, from October 1 to October 3, 2026.
Delivered by Ms. Fatima Al Sakkaf, Legal Counsel – Director at CUD, the workshop explored how the law is responding to rapid advances in AI, combining interactive case studies, real-world data breach analysis, mock court proceedings, and advocacy-based role-play.
The first day examined the fast-changing legal landscape around AI. Through case studies and real-world scenarios, students explored the challenges that arise from AI adoption, including the absence of comprehensive AI regulation in many jurisdictions and what these gaps mean in practice. They also studied the EU AI Act and took part in mock court proceedings based on U.S. intellectual property disputes involving AI.
The second day focused on international data protection and privacy law. Students applied core legal principles to practical scenarios, identifying the rights, responsibilities, and obligations of different stakeholders, and analyzed recent personal data breach cases to assess how legal frameworks can protect individuals in an increasingly data-driven world.
On the final day, students formed two advocacy teams and analyzed real U.S. cases involving AI and intellectual property. Taking on the role of legal advocates, they examined ambiguities in existing legal frameworks, challenged conventional interpretations, and evaluated how legal uncertainty can shape case outcomes, strengthening their analytical, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
The workshop reflects CUD's commitment to experiential learning that connects academic knowledge with the legal, ethical, and regulatory questions shaping global business and the future of work.
