An Evening of Inspiring Discussions and Captivating Performances in Partnership with the Embassy of Canada, Embassy of Germany, Arabic Music Institute and Berklee Abu Dhabi
December 16, 2024, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE): Canadian University Dubai (CUD), in collaboration with the Embassies of Canada and Germany, the Arabic Music Institute by Emaar, and Berklee Abu Dhabi, recently hosted an unforgettable evening celebrating cultural diversity, unity, and sustainability through the transformative power of music. The evening featured two events that showcased CUD’s commitment to cultivating cultural diversity, inclusivity and sustainability.
The event began with the opening remarks from Dr. Adam Fenech, CUD's provost, who highlighted the university’s vision of building cultural bridges through education, innovation, and the arts.
The evening then proceeded with the CUD Leaders Series: Panel Discussion on Cultural Diversity and Classical Music in the UAE, moderated by Ms. Sanaz Sotoudeh, renowned pianist and CUD lecturer. This thought-provoking discussion explored how classical music reflects the UAE’s rich cultural diversity, bridges cultural gaps, and promotes sustainability through environmentally conscious practices. The panel features esteemed and renowned personalities:
- Dr. Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera
- Ms. Mayssa Karaa, Grammy-nominated, American-Lebanese singer and Artistic Director of Berklee Abu Dhabi
- Dr. Evangelos Moustakas, Dean of the Department of Creative Industries and Department of Communication and Media at CUD
The celebration concluded with the CUD Concert Series: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of UAE & Canada Bilateral Relations, organized in partnership with the Embassy of Canada to the UAE and the Arabic Music Institute by Emaar. This breathtaking concert brought together a fusion of Emirati and Canadian musical traditions, leaving the audience in awe.
The highlights from the event include Ms. Sanaz Sotoudeh’s enchanting piano recital, the Arabic Music Institute Orchestra’s blend of traditional Emirati and contemporary sounds, Ms. Mayssa Karaa’s soulful vocals, Mr. Saif Al Ali showcased the rich heritage of Emirati music on the Oud and opera singer Yana Mann added elegance with her soaring vocals.
The concert truly celebrated cultural harmony, bridging traditions while highlighting the shared values of sustainability and community.
