November 17th, 2018: In an incredibly intense contest at the Aktive Nation Sports Center, a CUD team squared off against Rochester Institute of Technology competing the gold at the DIAC Sports Club. With the clock running down and the score even, one last burst of energy carried our team to victory, winning the match 29-27.
“It was really our spirit that carried us to make that last goal; our dedication. The other team fought hard and they wanted that victory, but in the end we wanted it more.” said Abubakar Garba, team captain.
Mr. Dusan Popovic, sports coordinator at CUD, reaffirmed this by saying: “The team has been training since the beginning of the semester with a great dedication and tenacity, and it was because of their ability to overcome the pressure, that they were able to hold out as long as they did and come home with gold medals to show for it.”
Endurance was the key as the tournament lasted for five days, and involved 16 teams from different universities.
We at Canadian University Dubai should take great pride in the accomplishments of our Basketball team, who also took home silver back in early October for their participation in the AUD-hosted Athletics Fall Tournament. We wish them success in all their future competitions.
