April 17th, 2019: At a ceremony in Hall B attended by members of the CUD family, the university recognised the talents of our students who are prominent in the sporting field.
Organised by Mr. Dusan Popovic, CUD Sports Coordinator, certificates and trophies were handed out to students who had exceled in the sporting field over the last year. During this time CUD teams, both men and women, have participated in Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Tennis, Table Tennis and Chess and have brought much success for CUD..
Dr. Rami El Khatib, opened the ceremony by welcoming everyone who attended. He thanked Mr. Dusan for his enthusiasm in organising the event and for promoting sport so effectively in CUD and commended the outstanding contribution made by the various team coaches.. He congratulated all the participants on their awards and looked forward to more sporting achievements in the future.
The excellence of our external sports coaches was recognised with awards to Ronald Metelus, football coach and Branko Macura, coach of the Mens’ basketball team. Our student coaches also received recognition with Amal Sabri Omar and Mohammad Ghasem Najmi Aldin being rewarded for their work with the Women’s Basketball Team
Team captains were given trophies: Abubakar Garba, Mens’ basketball; Grace Mea Andjou, Womens’ basketball, Rawad Yamout, Mens volleyball and Rihqam Omar, Womens' volleyball.. Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu received an award as football captain and Most Valued Player.
Other Most Valued Player awards were presented to Nicholas Mendoza for Mens’ basketball; Diya Mathew, Womens’ basketball; Majid Saqer Khamis Ali Al Falasi, Mens’ volleyball; Shannaiah Inocencio, Womens’ volleyballl; Patrick Saba, Mens’ tennis and Leen Sharif, Womens’ Tennis. Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu also received an award for Most Valued Player in table tennis.
Concluding the ceremony, chess certificates were awarded to Hussein Abou EI Dahab, Fadi Suleiman, Wissam Itani, Tamerlan Maratov and Sayed Farid Mousavi.
The event was brought to a close with a celebration featuring pizzas and music.
