October 4th, 2015: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) student Sania Ahuja has so impressed bosses at the Dubai office of leading multinational Thomson Reuters that she has already found herself taking on a global role with the world’s foremost business intelligence organization.
An Accounting and Finance major in the School of Business Administration, Sania started out on a three-month internship with the corporation after making an instant impression when the company visited this year’s CUD career fair. From her original role in the regional risk training team, she has quickly moved on to a challenging post with the company’s Global Growth and Operations (GGO) division.
Working across emerging markets including China, India, Russia, Latin America and Africa, she is responsible for gathering critical business intelligence to help inform major investment decisions across the company’s worldwide operations and drive strategic growth in these regions. As part of a small and dynamic team with an international outlook, Sania is now getting the kind of experience and exposure that she hopes will aid her transition into the world of corporate law.
“My ambition is to pursue a career in the legal profession,” explained Sania, “So I was looking for an internship that could combine my skills and experience to date with an opportunity to develop myself towards my long-term goal, and Thomson Reuters is the perfect fit.”
She continued, “Taking on a role with a global dimension has really given me the chance to get a better understanding of international business operations and to learn and develop new skills under the guidance of experts in the field.”
According to Sania’s manager Hala Bou Alwan, who heads Risk Market Development for GGO, she has proved to be an exceptional candidate who has great potential. She said, “Sania is an outstanding performer; she keeps surprising me with the talent and creativity she has, and the passion she shows in everything she does. She is very dedicated and implements what she learns with high responsibility and a positive attitude. I would love to have Sania as a permanent member in my team.”
Alongside her internship, her degree studies, and a host of extra-curricular activities, Sania is also working on her LSATs, which she hopes will eventually set her up for a place in Law School in Canada.
She concluded, “This internship has been a dream come true for me; every day brings a new and exciting challenge. I’m very thankful for this opportunity because, while I’ve been able to draw on some of the lessons from class, I don’t think anything could have prepared me for such a fast-paced environment, which is what I expect from my future career.”
