November 12th, 2015: President and Vice Chancellor of Canadian University Dubai, Pr. Karim Chelli, has been honoured with an Education Leadership Award at the 2015 World Leadership Congress, held recently in Dubai.

Pr. Chelli received the accolade in recognition of his outstanding contribution to innovation and excellence in global education, and was among a distinguished group of leaders from multinational groups such as McKinsey and Vodafone, and renowned institutions including the University of Queensland, who were recognized at the ceremony.

The World Leadership Congress is an annual conference and awards event that seeks to create, cultivate and pay tribute to strong, innovative and visionary leadership in business and wider society. It particularly recognizes individuals and organizations whose exemplary leadership qualities are deemed as nation-building.

As founding President of Canadian University Dubai, Pr. Chelli is regarded as a leading entrepreneur in the field of higher education. After undertaking several strategic roles at institutions in Canada, he took the pioneering step to establish the first overseas campus carrying the name 'Canadian University', bringing the country's world-renowned education system to the city of Dubai.

Pr. Chelli adds the award to a catalogue of leadership accolades, which include a Business School Leadership Award, presented by the International World Education Congress, and an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education, conferred by the World Chancellors’ and Vice Chancellors’ Congress.

Speaking about his most recent credit, Pr. Chelli said, “Education is the backbone of our society and it is an honour to be recognized as a leader in this field. When we established Canadian University Dubai, our aim was to help diversify the educational landscape of the UAE and bring forward international best practices to benefit the country’s citizens and residents.

“Almost ten years on, and Dubai is now a hub for international education, bringing students from across the region and beyond to pursue their higher learning in the UAE. I am proud that the University has not only contributed to the betterment of education in this country, but also to attracting young talent to the Emirates, who will themselves go on to make their own mark on UAE society.”
