Saturday, February 24, 2018. Khalifa University, Petroleum Institute Campus, Abu Dhabi: Dr. Joanna Seraphim, Assistant Professor, Department of Communication, Faculty of Communication, Arts and Sciences organized and facilitated a symposium that focused on introducing, sharing and enhancing teaching techniques for classes in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the university level.
In 2016, Dr. Joanna was chosen by CUD to attend an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, together with 20 other professors from UAE institutions. This program, designed by the Stanford Center for Professional Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, aims to introduce an Innovation and Entrepreneurship course to the general education program of the Emirati curriculum.
Amongst the 60 Stanford cohorts in the UAE, 16 were selected to become Program Ambassadors. As one of the chosen Ambassadors, Dr. Joanna has undergone training developed by Stanford, to be able to teach future professors how to deliver this class. To date she has trained 50 professors from 20 universities in the region
The training covers design thinking, comparison of best practices and discussed research collaboration. A series of follow-up training events are being planned over the next few months.
The Ambassadors Program was created to foster student leaders who can encourage their peers to engage in venture activity while at school. Ambassadors learn tactics for creating a climate of entrepreneurship, providing them with a large national network of peers and insights into new and potentially relevant strategies deployed on similar campuses.
