May 14th 2018: As part of an ongoing program to strengthen our ties with past students, CUD organized a basketball game between teams of current students and alumni. The students won 68-47, but both teams were victorious when it came to the camaraderie that was shared during the event.
Over 150 people came to watch the game, and over half of the spectators were former CUD students.
As an example of the sportsmanship on display, Abubakar Garba, captain of the winning team, handed over the victors’ trophy to alumnus Mido Basyouni, the alumni team captain.
The purpose of the event was to build on the existing strong relationship between current and past students and to emphasize the desire amongst our alumni to give something back to the University.
During the event, CUD alumnus Saif Chilmiran created a graffiti panel to celebrate the occasion.
We consider our alumni to be ambassadors for the University as they have the capacity to enhance our image and reputation through networking opportunities, by inspiring and mentoring our students, and by raising awareness of CUD in the wider community.
Similar events are planned for the near future, including a Gala Dinner, awards ceremonies and networking events, just to name a few.
