March 20th, 2016: Students, faculty and staff at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have come together to observe Earth Hour 2016, supporting the tenth edition of the annual environmental campaign.
Led by the School of Environment & Health Sciences, Student Council, the CUD Environment Club (Green Keys), and the Art Club, non-essential lighting was switched off around the campus to mark the University’s contribution to the international movement.
Aimed at raising awareness about energy consumption and climate change, Earth Hour started out as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and the campaign has since grown to engage hundreds of millions of people in more than 172 countries and territories around the world.
This year’s on-campus activities also included tee shirt painting, with students taking a creative approach to help raise awareness of the environmental message.
