April 19th, 2018: Under the supervision of Dr. Firuz Kamalov, Assistant Professor, Department of Engineering, a team of three Network Engineering students – Hussein El Dahab, Khaled Ghadry and Mohammad Bin Sohail – has recently qualified for the third round of the prestigious Undergraduate Student Research Competition in Abu Dhabi.
Their research project titled "Alternative Approach to Linear Regression" was selected among 320 submissions from 30 universities across the region.
The project proposes a new method for determining the best fit for a given data set. Since linear regression forms the foundation of statistical analysis and has applications in almost every scientific field, the implications of their research can be far-reaching.
As part of their research, the students implemented their new algorithm in Python, a programming language, which is available to anyone with the necessary software.
