April 28th, 2019: Students from our new Events and Tourism Program visited the 27th Annual Arabian Travel Market Exhibition held in the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre. They were accompanied by Dr. Iva Bulatovic, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Management.
The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate to the students the various aspects of the travel and tourism industry and how it works.
On display were representatives from overseas destinations, various travel companies, intermediaries in tourism, hotel companies, as well as airlines and IT companies involved in travel and tourism.
Our students were hosted by Mr. Glen Nobbs, General Manager of Copthorne Hotel (Millennium Hotels) one of the Exhibitors. Mr. Nobbs highlighted the importance of marketing segmentation in the tourism and hospitality sector and how location was one of elements of the marketing mix which affects strategic decisions and market positioning.
Being a business to business event the students were able to register as professionals.
With the support of Dr. Marc Poulin, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management, useful contacts were made leading to future collaborations especially regarding students’ internships.

The annual business-to-business (B2B) exhibition showcases over 2,800 products and destinations from around the world to over 28,000 buyers and travel trade visitors across four days at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC).
Over 39,000 people attend this event every April, including travel professionals, government ministers and the international press, where they network, negotiate and discover the latest industry opinion and trends.
