Mun Association Prepares for a New Season of Debate

September 17th, 2015: The Canadian University Dubai (CUD) Model United Nations Association is preparing for a new season of debate on the challenges facing global society, following its recent launch event for the 2015-16 academic year.

President of the Association Ginevra Nencha welcomed new and returning members to the first gathering of the Autumn Semester, and introduced the opportunities for students to take part as members of the organization’s executive team.

The meeting also heard from External Vice President, Maryam A. Bin Dakhan, about upcoming national and international events across the Model United Nations associations, including the opportunity to take part in an annual global conference in Munster, Germany.

Supervising faculty member Dr. Aziz Mulay Shah spoke about the importance of the Association and the opportunities it offers students to enhance their university experience. He said, “The Model United Nations tackles some of the biggest issues in international affairs and shows how countries come together to solve problems on a global scale.

“Taking part in the Association helps students to develop new skills, collaborate in news ways, and experience how cooperation and diplomacy can help in developing practical solutions to real-world problems, as well as developing an understanding of global politics and international relations.”

The CUD Model United National will meet every Monday from 6pm and participating students will represent UN member states in a debate on different global challenges, each presenting their country’s stance based on their research on that particular issue.
