March 21st, 2015: Faculty and students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have heard from His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, about the importance of nurturing human capital in the pursuit of a competitive, knowledge-based economy.
Delivering the keynote address at the India Conference – UAE, which was convened under the theme ‘Building Human Capital for the Knowledge Economy’, Sheikh Nahyan said that education, training and skills development are essential to building an economy based on the exploitation of knowledge, and ultimately to driving sustainable economic growth.
The CUD delegation of business students and faculty joined policy makers and industry leaders at the inaugural edition of the conference, organized by the All India Management Association (AIMA) under the patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan. The purpose of the gathering was to provide a platform for dialogue and thought leadership on key areas of mutual interest and cooperation between India and the UAE.
Chaired by Sunil Kant Munjal, Sr. Vice President of AIMA, the conference also touched upon the importance to the two nations of building smart and scalable infrastructure, and the opportunities that exist for the UAE and India to compete and collaborate as world healthcare hubs.
Among the attendees at the event, CUD student Lubna Musa, said, “It was interesting to see how many parallels can be drawn between the UAE and India, in particular, each one of the speakers stressed the importance of building human capital for the knowledge economy as a focal point for both countries.
“The conference also clearly established a productive platform to promote further cooperation strategies and trade relations between the two countries, and demonstrated how economic engagement and cultural exchange can support the progress and productivity of nations.
“As a business student, the event provided an excellent opportunity to see how skills, competencies and knowledge actually translate into competitive advantage in the business world and how focusing on excellence in education can develop a lasting legacy in economic terms.”
