February 5, 2018, Block B Atrium: Under the banner, ‘Explore, Create, Inspire,’ a competition to design a creative space in Block B Courtyard for the new Incubation and Learning Zone was launched.
Faculty from the Departments of Interior Design & Architecture and the Faculty of Communications, Arts & Sciences outlined the competition and shared ideas about its creation during a design workshop, or charrette. The purpose of the event was to brainstorm and initialize ideas for the space collectively as a school.
The Design Charrette was organized by the Interior Design Department and first year design students from DESI 102.
Ms. Chloe Bennett introduced the event and spoke of the Spirit of the Design Charrette.
Ms. Elisabetta Lampedecchia and Dr. David Santandreu then introduced the Competition itself.
This was followed by Dr. Julia Finnegan who presented on a “Vision for the Imiginarium,” an inspiring brief on the project itself.
Dr. Constantin Victor Spiridonidis then spoke on “Re-Thinking the Pizza: an Architectural Theory Approach to the Design of Innovative Space” to give students deeper questions to help formulate their concept. At this stage participants were refreshed with a real pizza.
Finally two design intensives were delivered: the first by Ms. Carla M. Arias, Ms. Sophie Johnson, Mr. Steve Denyer and Dr. Hamoud Dekkiche; and the second by Mr. Joaquin Busch and Mr. Luca Donner, all faculty from the Departments of Interior Design & Architecture.
The winner of the Competition will have the honor of having the Imaginarium named after them.
