You’re Not Alone
#TogetherWeCan
During this difficult time, we, at Canadian University Dubai, are thinking heavily about our responsibility as an educator. We are thinking about the impact on our students and members near and far and on our role to help navigate and rise above this impact. We echo His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai’s sentiments when he says, “Education Never Stops”, and we are compelled to look for ways to be flexible and accessible in our part to encourage the pursuit of higher education. Together, we can continue to inspire minds and transform lives.
We are offering a FREE course during the Summer 2019/20 Semester to all our students and any qualified local or international students.*

Actions we have taken:
Below are some of the things we are doing to uphold our values to serve our community during this unprecedented time.
Shifting to online Academics and Services
Our IT department has worked tirelessly to prepare for seamless delivery of 80+ hours of coursework to be shifted to a virtual environment. This included over 60 hours of training for faculty. The IT team is also working hard to respond quickly to technical issues that arise from both students, faculty, and staff. Since beginning of online classes on March 22nd, the IT team has overseen and supported over 310 online meetings, over 40,000 online meeting minutes with over 6,500 attendees.
Student Counselling
We are offering counselling services online or over the telephone for students who are experiencing anxiety, fear, or depression during this time. We have connected with travelling students to provide reassurance and guidance where we can. For students with disabilities, we have provided accessible accommodations as they adapt to online learning, and we have delivered self-care packages, containing food items and sanitation products, to all students in dorms.
Health Centre
The Health Centre provided the first COVID-19 circulation from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on February 9th, 2020. Since then, we continue to be the University’s liaison with the DHA to make sure we are following safety protocols to handle COVID-19 specifically. The DHA provides us with current and relevant information, updates for the University leadership team, and products - such as hand sanitizer. In addition, we continue to place nurses at the dorms on weekdays and weekends to address student health concerns.
Library Online support
Students can access the library resources online and get eBooks, articles, company reports, country reports, online journals, and cases electronically and for free anytime.
Student Career Services
We are assisting students with weekly informational videos to enhance their employability through social platforms. Students can use these videos and this time to improve their interview skills.
Student Life & Engagement, Athletics and Sport
We have initiated online engagement activities such as informational videos, CUD’s got talent (dance & music competition) and e-games to boost morale during this time. Kahoot trivia games, online gaming tournaments, weekly exercise & fitness videos, social media platforms, and online music & dance competitions have been a hit during this time of social distancing.

March 29, 2020: CANADIAN UNIVERSITY DUBAI - GRADUATION 2020
MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR AND PRESIDENT TO THE CLASS OF 2020
Dear Class of 2020,
In years to come, when you look back on the year 2020, it is our hope that you remember a joyous celebration of your achievements and successes at Canadian University Dubai (CUD). What is typically celebrated, in a gathering of friends, family, and the university community during our graduation ceremony, brings us challenge this year in light of COVID-19.
As we continue to take seriously the national directives to remain socially distant, and we, like you, are uncertain of the timeframes and severity of the emerging situation, we have acted to postpone upcoming 2020 academic calendar’s events. Sadly, this included the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony.
We understand that the news to postpone this signature event is disappointing. Graduation is a milestone and an important tradition as you close a significant chapter in your lives. Wearing the CUD regalia, symbolic of your achievement, is a moment we all cherish in this journey. Graduation is closure of perseverance and a reminder of the strength you’ve gained in meeting all the requirements of your degree. We understand that a commencement ceremony highlights this range of emotion and joy, and, we too, are deeply disappointed by any disruption of this tradition.
However, as we seek to rise above this challenge, we are encouraged to find alternative ways to celebrate you. We are sure that we will make it up to you once the time is right. We anticipate that time to be early 2021, and we will plan for a larger and unforgettable ceremony with the both the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021.
The past several weeks and the weeks ahead are a true test of what CUD has instilled in you. An innovative spirit will emerge as we plan for new realities. While it is true that your CUD graduation year will forever be synonymous with this unique place in history, it is our goal that you remember it, in years to come, with joy. Thank you again for your resiliency and willingness to adapt.
