March 24, 2020: Update from the
Chancellor and President

To Canadian University Dubai Community

During this difficult time, we want to acknowledge our community members for their patience and understanding as we adjust to the COVID-19 situation. Our staff and faculty are working hard to ensure no disruption to classes and services, and our students continue to make us proud as they adapt from face to face instruction to online instruction.

The University continues to take seriously the national directives, and we will follow the updates closely. With global cases of COVID-19 spreading rapidly, we must take extra precautions to keep our members safe. At this time, we want to share a few updates from those developments.

The University is currently closed to students, faculty, and staff. To comply with social distancing directives, your presence and all organized public and internal events/gatherings on campus is strictly forbidden until further notice. Please rely on our online resources to stay in touch, complete coursework, and serve the University community.

Faculty continue to conduct classes online which began on March 22, 2020. We will continue operating in a virtual setting until we are directed by the Ministry of Education to re-open the campus. At this time, we understand the closure period to be a two-week timeframe, but we are closely watching this situation and will update University members accordingly. We acknowledge and appreciate our faculty and staff who have quickly shifted their efforts toward creating a virtual learning environment. As the University takes pride in our personal connections, moving to a virtual format was daunting, but we knew it was necessary to protect our University members, the community beyond us, and maintain academic continuity.

Also, at this time, effective immediately, University dorms/residences are restricted to residents only. External persons including guests, delivery persons, and outsourced companies are forbidden to enter dorms until further notice. During this time, we encourage students to rally around our efforts to keep spaces clean and sanitized.

We understand that this is a difficult time, but these decisions are necessary to mitigate exposure to COVID-19. We ask that all University members follow the national directives to comply with social distancing, and when exposed to the public, please take steps to protect yourself and others.

We recognize that the need to adapt is moving quickly, and, at the same time, many unanswered questions remain at the forefront of our minds. We want to assure you that the University’s leadership team is closely monitoring the situation and will disseminate information as it pertains to our members as soon as possible. During this time, your safety, health, and well-being remain our top priority.
